Wether we are aware of it or not, colours are often enhancing our emotional balance and general wellbeing subconsciously.
Colour healing is a broad therapeutic method, accompanying the idea that we can assign conscious intention to the variety of colours amidst our every day lives in an effort of
self empowered healing.
How can we take advantage of the energetic properties assigned to the colour wheel?
Apply it to your next outfit of the day!
Root Chakra / Muladhara
The root chakra is located along the perineum, closely associating itself with the genitals. This centre is attached to the sciatic nerves running down the back of the legs all the way to the feet. These sciatic nerves look similar to the roots of a tree, and a strong tree must be strong rooted, or it will never withstand any weathering storms. The root chakra is aligned with our survival, instinctual, and primal needs. Survival demands attention and stability. We can consider how we also need a sense of grounded stability in our lives to feel safe. If you are festered with fear, periods of instability, or feeling like you are barely scraping by, it is recommended to go back to your roots (chakra). Try wearing red, especially undergarments, for a conscious boost to realign this chakra.
Sacral Chakra / Swadhishthana
If we travel upwards around the belly button surface area, we will find the sacral chakra. From earth and rigidity, there was water and fluidity. This chakra centre is associated with dealings of emotional balance, desire, and adaptability. We move beyond the immediate needs of the primal instinct, and mature into the possibilities of emotional decision making. This is what we might call "gut instincts", and the desire to experience more than the fulfillment of our basic survival needs. If you are plagued with extreme emotional episodes, general emotional instability, or an inability to adapt to changes, it is recommended to balance the sacral chakra. Try wearing orange, in any manner or fashion, for a conscious realignment and balancing of this chakra.
Solar Plexus Chakra / Manipura
Continuing this path of liberation upwards through the physical body, we can find that just below the sternum and around the ribcage lies the solar plexus chakra. We feel our power and potential radiating from this fiery energy centre. This chakra is a source of confidence, motivation, and self determination. It is an influential chakra, as it helps us to get out of bed in the morning and create change. Think about what excites you, and drives you to action. When you feel excited you might get a rush throughout your whole body. The solar plexus creates a dialogue in your head of “I can, and I will”. You are the master of your own universe. If you are dealing with a lack of motivation, confidence, or will to action, it is recommended to balance the solar plexus chakra. Try incorporating yellow into your outfit, even if it's only your socks, for a conscious energetic boost to this chakra.
Heart Chakra / Anahata
From fire, we are reborn like the phoenix. Nestled in the chest, the heart is a magnetically magical energy source. The heart chakra is the origin of love, attachment, nurturing, and creative capacity. Here we are able to connect on an emotional level to others, creating strong and enduring bonds. This chakra is a rhythmic force that exists harmoniously through out all living beings. This chakra if out of balance, domino effects and blocks the constant traveling energy from all chakras. When the heart is wounded, the head is misguided. If you are suffering from grief, struggling with receiving or offering forgiveness, and feeling blocked from forming deep and meaningful connections with others, it is recommended to rebalance the heart chakra. Try wearing green, especially covering the chest with T-shirts, sweaters, etc. to bring conscious attention to the healing of the heart chakra.
Throat Chakra / Vishudha
Continuing upwards from the heart is the throat chakra from which we can easily understand the importance, as well as the constant usage of our voices for communication. Found at this chakra is our capability to articulate clearly, honestly, and openly. Check in with your breath at this moment. We often forget that our breathing can dictate and influence our emotional states, and ability to face anxiety inducing situations. Take a few deep breaths to keep yourself calm and present. If you have a hard time speaking up for yourself, communicating clearly with others, or feeling confident about the potential influence of your voice, it is recommended you open the throat chakra for clear energy passage. Try wearing blue if you have to make a speech, do a lot of talking through out your day, or have important conversations to manage.
Third Eye Chakra / Ajna
The next major energy centre is the third eye, located between the eyebrows and above the bridge of the nose. The third eye is connected to the pineal gland, deep in the center of the brain. It is thought to serve as a bridge between our physical reality and the spiritual planes. The philosopher Descartes referred to the pineal gland as the seat of the soul. The third eye is metaphysically associated with foresight, psychic abilities, insight, and transcendence. The third eye can both open and close, strengthen and weaken based on our experiences and general wellbeing. If you feel blocked by illusions, drawn to open the doors to the metaphysical and spiritual... the third eye chakra is the perfect place to increase your capability for all things regarding manifestation, reflection, and intuition. Try introducing deep indigo blues and dark purples to your wardrobe to initiate the opening of the third eye, introducing a super-consciousness and connectivity to your environment and the universe at work.
Crown Chakra / Sahasrara
The seventh and final chakra on the physical body is the crown chakra. This chakra is located at the very top of the head and is thought to be connected to the cerebral cortex. If the third eye is the seat of the soul, then the crown chakra is the seat of cosmic consciousness. At this chakra we have access to receiving information and connecting to the Divine Source. The crown chakra can be used as a source for enlightenment and understanding. We find clarity, wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual harmony here. The crown chakra is easily blocked by the ego. Try wearing violet as well as white to unblock the negative attachments of the ego, therefore emphasizing purity of the soul, clarity of the mind, and divine awareness to your everyday life and auric field.
By bringing attention to the energetic properties of the colours you're wearing, you can take a more assertive and self empowering approach to each day. Helping to make you feel better prepared, adaptable, confident, present, and most of all...
